The 2023 Music & Arts Competition is a solo and group event open to students in grades 4 – 12 (ages 8 – 18) who are soldiers in the the Potomac Division.

SOLO Dance

Ages 12 - 18

Embrace the freedom and get creative! Dancers will choregraph and perform their own solo routine.

Utilize any style of music or dance. This includes instrumental music with no lyrics.


Rules

1.  Dancers should choose music that is meaningful to them and has a positive or Christian message.

2. Attire must be an appropriate size/length.

3. Routine should ideally be between 3 – 4  minutes. DO NOT EXCEED 5 MINUTES.

4. Your corps officer and a member of the music department must approve all song selections.


When choreographing, consider reviewing this technique list as well as researching proper form and posture.

Me? Get Angry? – Script


Rules

1. The script must be presented FROM MEMORY.

2. Before you start, briefly introduce yourself

Ex) “My name is [NAME], and I am from [HOME CORPS].”

3. Appropriate props and costumes are allowed as long as they don’t distract from the performance.

4. Light ad-libbing is permitted as long as it doesn’t stray too far from the script and remains appropriate.

Rules

1. Minimum 4 participants

2. Participants must be between the ages of 6 – 13

3. Song is to be performed FROM MEMORY.

4. Participants must be in uniform (black and white attire).
